Career Planning

My top three career objectives for the next five years are…

·      To obtain knowledge and skills which help me to be a professional
·      To complete my education in Master of Science in Business administration
·      To seek an entry-revel position with a opportunities for career growth

I identify myself as a challenging person. My personal goal makes me achieve to study and work hard. I had some work experiences back in my country, but I never thought these jobs would be my permanent occupation. So finding an interest in studying business has changed my mind. Having a future dream achieves me a lot. Also I am good at time management. It is very important since I have a busy schedule every day. I assume having an ability of time management would be very important for professionals. However there are some negative aspects of myself. Even though I understand that several skills are needed to reach my goal, I have difficulties to accomplish them sometimes. For example, I am not good at speak up in front of people, or I always take more time to come up with ideas than others when the professor asks questions in class. When the things do not go through as I hope to be, I easily feel disappointed in myself. Another my negative aspect is that I am not hundred percent sure what I want to be after graduating the collage. My plan is still dim, so  I need to find out what company I want to work for.

In regard to lack of oral communication skill, the first thing I must do is to visit ESL lab and a tutor to practice. This would help me to be more confident and relaxed when I have to give presentations or debates. Another thing I have to continue is to keep my GPA higher than 3.2. I believe it can be an advantage when I look for a job. I should started thinking about the internship soon, but I have not researched about it at all yet and have no idea where I should start from. So I also need to find out what steps I have to take. I also think making a connection with people who work at a field where I would like to get in would bring me opportunities to find a position at their company. Fortunately I have many opportunities to meet people work in finance, accounting, or other business field. Even though it is not directly related to getting a job, I till can have good opportunity to talk with them and sell myself.

  1. Great plan Nanami, I would also utilize your multiple language skills. This is a big plus for employers and it could definitely help you get an internship or a job in the future.

  2. I commend you for going to ESL tutoring. However, I am a firm believer that education is not just in a formal setting. There is no best education than real life practices. I think the more you have conversations with your friends in English, the better you get at it. However, writing in English may not be as easy. For written communication, I do think formal training is the best training because in the real world it is extremely important to communicate in writing. However, you have already made great accomplishments by going to college and learning the English language. I don't know if I would do as well as you if I had to learn and study in a foreign language. Do your best and never give up. Good luck.

  4. It seems you have your next five years planned out very well. Your plan of action and all objectives are clear and well defined. I'm sure you will be successful in achieving your goal just don't get discouraged by some 'weaknesses' along the road. Public speaking, in my opinion, is a challenge for many of us, especially when English is not your first language, but if you use all resources available to you, soon enough you should see significant improvements and it will help you feel more confident. Best of luck!
